Gulgulae or Gulgula are sweet fritters that are traditionally made in Indian households especially during auspicious times or festivals. These are generally made with gur or jaggery and are deep fried. They are made with whole wheat flour and are very delicious.

I was visiting my parents and on makar sakranti festival and my father wanted to have gulgulae but was not comfortable have it deep fried stuff . So it inspired me to look for healthier options of making gukgulae.

I decided to bake a small batch of baked gulgulae using whole wheat flour and jaggery. In all i made 7 cup cakes and they tasted very delicious quite like the fried ones. The best part is it does not contain any butter or oil or ghee so no additional fat and still they were very moist from the inside.
